The comb is cut from green sandalwood. A curved spine carries a row of wide-set teeth, and the long handle is carved in relief with plum blossoms and branches, ending in an open loop that can hang on a hook. The wide spacing between the teeth helps it work through knots in long, thick or curly hair, wet or dry. The wood has a light sandalwood scent, and the grain varies from piece to piece, so each comb looks slightly different.
